Description
St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for a Museum Educator to organize, plan, and execute educational programs, events, and activities at its historic sites and museums. This vacancy is located at Faust Park in Chesterfield.
The typical starting salary will be between $36,192.00-$43,430.40 annually depending on the candidate’s qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. Examples of Duties
- Research history of historic sites and their artifacts to develop educational programs that relate the mission of the historic site to the general public under the direction of the Cultural Site Manager
- Coordinate and develop programs with existing education team members at the park
- Develops curricula and plans, implements, and presents educational/docent programs based on site mission for school children and adult groups.
- Researches, produces, and conducts tours, seminars, and meetings based on site mission.
- Purchases and maintains education materials and supplies for education programs and special events.
- Produces press releases and program brochures for print and electronic media; assists staff with posting social media information.
- Accepts reservations and fees according to established policies and procedures.
- Works with a wide variety of volunteers and volunteer groups; including woodworkers, docents, and gardeners.
- Conducts research for grants, including the production and submission of grants, for special events and education programs for historic sites.
- Assists site staff with work on permanent and temporary exhibits and displays including text, labels, booklets, and exhibit tour information.
- Assists with docent training, volunteer meetings and works closely with non-profit support groups and other park user groups.
- Performs related work as required.
- Must be willing to work evening and weekends for programs and special events
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in History, Museum Studies, Education or a related field and one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant’s education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant’s earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.

St. Louis County offers its employees many excellent benefits with paid medical insurance, 20 days of PTO (paid time off) the first year and increasing with seniority, and 11 paid holidays. Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years.
