Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking an individual to work with the Theatre Arts department!
The individual will collaborate with course instructor(s) or theatre production director(s) to provide musical accompaniment that enhances and supports the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class materials and/or productions. Participate in activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college, and the collective and individual interest of its staff and student body.
Summary of Responsibilities
- (60%) Plays instrument(s) as specifically required by individual classes or productions, collaborating with students, faculty, guest instructors, or choreographers in rehearsals, performances, master classes, private lessons, and juries as assigned.
- (15%) Supports and reinforces the musical and technical ideas presented by private teachers and ensemble directors, demonstrating flexibility with repertoire assignments, and including pieces of varying genres, time periods, and difficulty levels. Maintains positive and encouraging interactions with students to support them as performing artists.
- (15%) Improves professionally and maintains expertise in technical skills and breadth of repertoire.
- (10%) Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Professional level music skills and previous experience accompanying a wide range of musical styles. Candidates must audition for the position and demonstrate the ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge and understanding of terminology used in performance classes.
- Proven professional skills and previous experience accompanying a wide range of musical styles.
- Ability to play a wide range of styles, improvise and provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class movement content and productions.
- Ability to interact with students in a positive and supportive manner.
- Ability to make musical adjustments to accommodate student needs and teacher instructions.
