MWR Recreation Aid (Single Sailor/Liberty)

Summary

This position is located in the Fitness and Recreation Division of the Support Services Department of Commander, Navy Region Southwest (CNRSW). The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to patrons at the Liberty Recreation Center and to issue all equipment.

Duties

  1. Responsible for checking patrons in and out of the Liberty Recreation Center according to established procedures. Responsible for issuing all equipment (i.e. computers, Nintendo, Sega, roller hockey gear, books, billiard balls, musical instruments, etc) to authorized patrons. Checks equipment to ensure that it has been returned in the same condition as issued. Informs supervisor of damage to equipment. Returns equipment to proper storage. Assists in taking periodic inventories.
  2. Responsible for interpreting and understanding provided program and event information to answer questions and inform patrons of programs, leagues, special events, activities and rules and regulations of the Centers.
  3. Assists with the preparation of special events, programs and activities. May assist with proper display of bulletin boards and other promotional material. Responsible for restocking resale inventory, books, equipment and supplies.
  4. Required to process resale transactions and to collect fees and charges for a variety of programs and activities. Completes daily activity reports (DAR) and drops money ensuring that proper cash handling procedures are followed.
  5. Assists with maintaining all required paperwork such as daily utilization reports, check in/check out information, utilization of equipment reports, etc.
  6. As required, opens and closes the facilities, which includes, but is not limited to, light cleaning on a daily basis. Ensures that security systems are operable and facility is properly secured according to established procedures.
  7. Ensures compliance with safety, fire and security rules and regulations. Informs supervisor of all violations or incidents which occur.
  8. As required, escorts patrons on trips and tours sponsored by the Liberty Recreation Centers.
  9. Enforces rules and regulations. Settles patron disputes between groups or individuals regarding use of the facility or rules. If unable to settle disputes, refers patrons to supervisor. Ensures patrons observe all fire, safety, and sanitation rules and regulations.
  10. Incumbent will exercise tact, diplomacy and courtesy when serving and assisting patrons. This will be expressed by tactfully responding to inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner in accordance with customer service training and military protocol.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate possess the following:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Cash handling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers, audio equipment, musical instruments and other equipment preferred.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports.
  • Knowledge of inventory preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class B driver’s license within 60 days of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a CPR/First Aid certification with 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
