Summary
Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program that may include special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, Library, Liberty, grab-n-go, movies, and outdoor recreation.

Duties
1. Responsible for operating the Bowling Pro Shop in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
2. Custom fits and drills bowling balls to the following grip specifications such as full, semi-finger, fingertip or any combination of grips combined. Plugs and re-drills bowling balls.
3. Ensures proper display, pricing and sale of a wide assortment of bowling accessories such as bowling balls, bags, shoes and miscellaneous bowling aids. Maintains adequate stock levels, requisitions merchandise and ensures that established receiving and issuing procedures are followed.
4. Assists and advises patrons on purchase of merchandise to ensure satisfaction. Answers questions and attempts to solve problems. Refers dissatisfied patrons to supervisor.
5. Determines replacement and/or repair of bowling balls damaged in house by machinery or ball return. Make necessary repairs as required. Informs supervisor of equipment repair and/or replacement.
6. Responsible for the accountability of all merchandise in the Bowling Pro Shop. Conducts periodic inventories as required. Advises supervisor of all discrepancies found when spot checking merchandise.
7. Maintains accurate and timely reports/records. Responsible for the custody and safekeeping of all records and property of the Bowling Pro Shop.
8. Operates a cash register according to standard cash control procedures. Responsible for own change fund. Completes daily activity reports and ensures proper deposit of cash receipts.
9. Performs general housekeeping tasks to ensure proper standard of appearance and cleanliness of assigned spaces.
10. Ensures compliance with fire and safety rules and regulations. Ensures proper shut down and lock up procedures are followed.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. Administrative work is performed in a normal office setting.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
- May have to obtain and maintain the following certification within 90 days of hire: Emergency First Responder or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively).
- Wearing of protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
Qualifications
1. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED OF THE POSITION
- Must have experience fitting and drilling bowling balls.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in bowling pro shop operations.
- Ability to maintain records and reports. Knowledge of inventory procedures.
- Cash Handling experience.
- Knowledge of machinery and equipment used in repairing bowling balls and accessories.
- Ability to use handtools such as; hammers, wrenches, files, etc.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
2. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Works under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor. Operates independently with supervisory assistance available when unusual situations arise. Work is reviewed for conformance to expectations or standards, satisfaction of customers, and efficiency of the operation.
3. GUIDELINES
Established MWR Standard Operating Procedures and Navy directives are followed. Some judgement is used in making minor deviations and adaptation to meet needs of customer.
4. COMPLEXITY
The work includes various duties involving related processes, steps, methods and procedures concerning activities involved in recreation programs. The incumbent must be knowledgeable with the rules and use of the materials and related equipment.
5. SCOPE AND EFFECT
The position impacts the efficiency and effectiveness of the bowling program.
6. PERSONAL CONTACT
Works closely with customers, staff, fire and safety personnel, command officials, and vendors.
7. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
The purpose of contacts is to promote the program, comply with policies or directives, provide and exchange information, insure program meets the needs of the customer and to assess the interest of participants.
8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires standing, walking, bending, carrying, and lifting items that weigh up to 40 pounds, occasionally required to lift heavier items requiring use of hand truck/dollies or assistance from assigned personnel.
9. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual’s care.
Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
