SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR SUBSTITUTE
$16.00
Interviews will be conducted in April. Applications received after interviews are conducted will be held on file in the event a second round of interviews is necessary.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the camp director and assistant director, performs responsible work in the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a variety of challenging, engaging, interesting, age appropriate activities for a specific unit within a summer recreation program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Is a first responder for all medical emergency procedures and may be exposed to possible health risks.
- Supervises lavatories, assists children in daily living skills, and may be required to perform janitorial duties.
- Responsible for the daily accountability, supervision, health and safety of their assigned unit.
- Resolves conflicts between campers.
- Plans and implements daily activities for campers in conjunction with site director and other staff members.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Completes required program forms.
- Attends weekly staff meetings.
- Maintains facility and all Town equipment.
- Adheres to and enforces all Town and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of a variety of leisure skills such as arts and crafts, music, drama, physical fitness, nature, aquatics, team and individual sports.
- Ability to deal effectively with parents, participants, and other Town employees.
- Strong leadership.
- Ability to motivate staff and participants.
- Ability to work well with children ages 4 to 12 and possess an understanding of their social, emotional and physical abilities
- Strong creativity and organizational skills
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Able to lift light objects between 20 and 50 pounds.
- Able to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as writing and typing.
- Able to perform tasks which require hand eye coordination such as demonstrating a specific leisure skill.
- Able to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods.
- Able to see objects far away and closely, such as waterfront supervision.
- Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise such as a call for help from a child.
- Able to communicate through human speech as in talking with a child.
- Able to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption.
- Needs to attend to task/function for 25 – 40 minutes
- Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others during the course of the day.
- Exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- 16 years of age or older
- Must possess previous experience with children.
- Attend mandatory training session in CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and overall departmental policies
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
