We are accepting applications for a Natural Resources Technician 3 within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Grand Lake St Marys State Park , in Auglaize County . Position Description: Performs skilled labor & maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds &/or equipment for Grand Lake St Marys and Miami and Erie Canals: performs skilled electrical (e.g., replaces lights bulbs, repair/replace breakers, & outlets, switches, light fixtures,; performs skilled carpentry (e.g., re-roofs buildings, repairs wooden structures, repairs foot bridges, repair and replace wooden bridges , spillways & steps, builds & repairs hydraulic control gates, installs & repairs stop logs); performs masonry work (e.g., scrapes & paints, cement repair, roof shingle replacement, repairs & constructs cement walkways, , concrete pads & block building); monitors &/or observes facilities, grounds & equipment for safety &/or maintenance needs & takes appropriate action; assists with grounds maintenance duties (e.g., snow removal from roads & parking lots, mows grass, picks up trash, liter, debris & brush cleanup from storms or removal of hazardous trees); operates boats to move/set buoys, perform flood debris clean up, & repair docks; performs skilled mechanical maintenance & repairs on equipment, &/or vehicles (e.g., brake lines, fuel pumps, alternators, hydraulics, pneumatics, small engine repair [mowers, trimmer engines], large engine & vehicle repair [boat motors, tractors, cars, trucks]); performs complex welding (e.g., fabrication, structural, technical); operates machine tools & equipment in the skilled equipment list; transports staff, equipment & supplies; applies chemicals (e.g., insecticides, fertilizers) as commercial applicator to lawns, weeds, shrubs, trees & invasive species; performs hydraulic control on the Miami and Erie Canal/Grand Lake St. Marys Lake, (e.g., record water levels, [hydraulic gate operation, lubricate, raise and lower gates according to water level readings, pooled water in fields, predicated rain fall], open and close lake drain on Grand Lake to keep canal at proper water level, operate lake drain at Grand Lake to pull lake level down for winter pool), perform equipment operation (e.g., tree removal, build coffer dams, rebuild earthen dams, excavate trenches, compact clay, run grade, hold grade, finish grade, excavate to place and compact rip rap) replace culverts, repair bank blow outs, operate dump truck and tag along trailer (e.g. haul dirt, stone, trees, & properly load & secure equipment such as bulldozer, backhoe, excavator, skid loaders, tractors, and support equipment).

Serves as lead worker (i.e., provides work direction & training) over assigned personnel performing unskilled &/or semiskilled labor & maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds &/or equipment: coordinates semiskilled carpentry, electrical, plumbing repairs & maintenance; coordinates semiskilled maintenance & repairs on equipment & vehicles (e.g., radiators, hydraulic pumps & motors, starters, belts); coordinates facilities, grounds & equipment for safety &/or maintenance needs & takes appropriate action; provides guidance, coordinates & prioritizes work projects; recommends schedules for seasonal crews by determining needs of park; assists with setting goals & objectives of the park; inspects completed work; reports manpower & equipment needs & status of projects to supervisor; conducts safety meetings.

Provides support for facilities & grounds (e.g., special events, facility & visitor information): resolves disputes, complaints & problems within established guidelines; assist with hydraulic control training of new employees, purchase, assist with maintaining & tracking supplies (e.g., catalogs equipment & tools, checks numbers, obtains price quotes, compares specifications & collects bids, orders supplies & materials using state contracts, minority vendors); maintains maintenance & equipment records & writes reports (e.g., repairs, supplies, projects, vehicle & equipment expenses, fuel consumption); drives state vehicle from area to area of the park, district & state to perform job duties (e.g., attend conferences, meetings, training, run errands, drive to field locations).

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT: Pesticide applicator license Category 5 as issued by Department of Agriculture required if applying chemicals regulated by law within one year of hire; positions operating watercraft must complete boat operator education course per Ohio Revised Code 1547.05.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be exposed to chemical spray; may work in or near water; may work evenings, weekends &/or holidays; works outside & may be exposed to inclement weather; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; unpleasant odors, human & animal waste, outdoor elements (e.g., animals, insects, poison ivy).

Qualifications
12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in safety practices; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in use of shop, hand & power tools & light equipment; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in carpentry, electrical repair & plumbing; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in equipment operation, maintenance & repair (e.g., tractors with attachments); valid Class A commercial driver’s license with air break and combination endorsements (motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code).
