What you will do…
- Perform customer service functions with a willingness to go above & beyond to ensure customer satisfaction & safety;
- Act as a lead worker providing work direction & training to co-workers;
- Maintain campground facilities, grounds &/or equipment;
- Maintain a variety of park equipment, boat rentals, & vehicles;
- Interact daily with a variety of customers who utilize the park & watercraft facilities.

Position Description: Performs skilled labor & maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds &/or equipment: performs skilled electrical (e.g., replaces lights bulbs, repair/replace short circuits, electrical panels, breaker boxes, service lines & outlets, switches, light fixtures, hand dryers, commercial washers & dryers, camp electrical pedestals) & plumbing (e.g., hot water heaters, trap fittings, showerheads, drinking fountains, faucets, toilets, urinals, sinks, replaces washers & faucets, repairs water valves & pumps, sets valves, water & sewer lines) repairs & maintenance; performs skilled carpentry (e.g., re-roofs buildings, repairs wooden structures, frames & hangs windows & doors, builds & repairs foot bridges, docks & steps, builds & repairs picnic tables, installs & repairs docks); performs masonry work (e.g., scrapes & paints, mortar repair, roof shingle replacement, repairs & constructs cement walkways, stone & block drinking fountain & entrance signs, foundations, concrete pads & block building); performs & assist with grounds maintenance duties (e.g., snow removal from roads & parking lots, mows grass, picks up trash, liter, debris & brush cleanup from storms or removal of hazardous trees); performs skilled mechanical maintenance & repairs on equipment, heating/cooling systems [HVAC], boat rentals &/or vehicles (e.g., break lines, fuel pumps, alternators, hydraulics, pneumatics); performs complex welding (e.g., fabrication, structural, technical); operates machine tools & equipment in the skilled equipment list; monitors &/or observes facilities, grounds & equipment for safety &/or maintenance needs & takes appropriate action; transports staff, equipment & supplies; applies chemicals (e.g., insecticides, fertilizers) under license of commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator to lawns, weeds, shrubs, trees & invasive species.
Serves as lead worker (i.e., provides work direction & training) over assigned personnel performing unskilled &/or semiskilled labor & maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds &/or equipment: coordinates semiskilled carpentry, electrical, plumbing repairs & maintenance; coordinates semiskilled maintenance & repairs on equipment & vehicles (e.g., radiators, starters, belts); coordinates facilities, grounds & equipment for safety &/or maintenance needs & takes appropriate action; provides guidance, coordinates & prioritizes work projects; recommends schedules for seasonal crews by determining needs of park; assists with setting goals & objectives of the park; inspects completed work; reports manpower & equipment needs & status of projects to supervisor; conducts safety meetings.
Provides support for facilities & grounds (e.g., special events, facility & visitor information): resolves disputes, complaints & problems within established guidelines; purchase, assist with maintaining & tracking supplies (e.g., catalogs equipment & tools, checks numbers, obtains price quotes, compares specifications & collects bids, orders supplies & materials using state contracts, minority vendors); maintains maintenance & equipment records & writes reports (e.g., repairs, supplies, projects, vehicle & equipment expenses, fuel consumption); drives state vehicle from area to area of the park, district & state to perform job duties (e.g., attend conferences, meetings, training, run errands, drive to field locations).
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT: Pesticide applicator license as issued by Department of Agriculture required if applying chemicals regulated by law within one year of hire; positions operating watercraft must complete boat operator education course per Ohio Revised Code 1547.05.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be exposed to chemical spray; may work in or near water; may work evenings, weekends &/or holidays; works outside & may be exposed to inclement weather; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; unpleasant odors, human & animal waste, outdoor elements (e.g., animals, insects, poison ivy).
Qualifications
12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in safety practices; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in use of shop, hand & power tools & light equipment; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in carpentry, electrical repair & plumbing; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in equipment operation, maintenance & repair (e.g., tractors with attachments).
