Summary
The NC Career Coach is a 5-year grant-funded position. The NC Career Coach will cultivate program and services for high school students to facilitate connection to career options. The Career Coach will engage in high school outreach to include career exploration and programming, advising, and support services. The coach will also engage with stakeholders within the local community business and industry leaders to connect students with opportunities and experiences while in high school and post high school graduation. The coordinator be expected to build rapport with SCC instructors, high school staff, Hoke County Schools administration, parents, and students and to develop an effective and beneficial partnership among all constituents.

Essential Functions
- Support outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment of high school learners on the college level.
- Maintain records throughout the student’s enrollment in high school detailing services offered to aid in annual mandatory reporting.
- Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways.
- Advise students based on student’s career pathway and interests.
- Conduct follow-up and customer service functions.
- Serve on campus committees as requested.
- Collaborate with both high school and college personnel to include CCP liaison regarding student course enrollment aligned with career interests.
- Build positive relations between Sandhills Community College and the Hoke County school district.
- Coordinate and Facilitate orientations and information sessions for students, staff, counselors, and parents.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders as appropriate to identify resources and needs to aid in student access and success.
- Remain available, responsive, and approachable while working with advisees and/or students.
- Demonstrate respect for advisees and/or students as individuals; this includes respecting the confidentiality of information shared while interacting.
- Treat others with dignity and respect and be committed to the highest standards of conduct and decency. Discourage any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors. Support open expression and diversity and be courteous, sensitive, and respectful to others.
- Work in partnership with colleagues and students across campus to identify and address needs/resources that will ensure equity, access, and opportunity for all.
- Attend educational offerings that enhance knowledge of diversity and cultural competency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required and experience in teaching or administration at the high school level to include advising, instruction and/or counseling. Experience in working closely with members of the community; excellent written and oral communication skills; and strong computer skills. Demonstrated commitment to promoting college access for all high school students. Knowledgeable in all aspects of the student experience to include coaching mentoring, academic/career advising, student/career services and progression.
