Network Administrator I – $6,218 – $8,749 monthly
Network Administrator II – $6,855 – $9,646 monthly
The City of Redding is creating an eligibility list for Network Administrator I/II to fill one full-time vacancy in the Information Technology Department, as well as future vacancies that occur during the life of this list.
Under general direction the Network Administrator will plan, install, diagnose and test, support, and maintain network hardware components, network operating systems, VoIP, radio system(s), interfaces and connections of the City’s distributed computer systems.

We are looking for someone to
Network Administrator I
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of network hardware and operating systems and software on the City’s network. Assist with strategic planning.
- Install, configure, and maintain network resources such as routers, controllers, servers, printers, firewalls and security.
- Configure, document and distribute new network equipment and software.
- Maintain records, including a complete and current inventory of all network equipment, data-communication equipment and network software versions.
- Perform systems programming.
- Assist in providing customer and Help Desk training for equipment and software within scope of network operations.

Network Administrator II
- Assist in providing customer and Help Desk training for equipment and software within scope of network operations.
- Continually monitor new technologies in support of various systems currently in operation.
- Assist in evaluation and testing of various new hardware and software developments.
- Provide support in the proper use of hardware as it affects the City’s network.
- Plan, assign, coordinate and oversee network and PC personnel and/or other personnel as assigned.
- Plan, coordinate, assign and oversee the work of lower level staff. Provide input on employee performance reviews. Provide support for staff during leaves, i.e., vacation, sick, etc., and during heavy or peak workloads.

Qualifications we’re looking for
- Knowledge of advanced level of network and personal computer operations, terminals, printers, modems and communications equipment, networks and network operating systems
- Knowledge of testing and diagnostic techniques
- Knowledge of network topologies and software
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to maintain an effective and cooperative team
- Ability to configure and trouble-shoot network hardware and communication equipment and operating systems and personal computer and peripheral equipment
- Ability to install and optimize network client software and personal computer software assign, coordinate and oversee the work of others comprehend personal computer software and network manuals
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:
- Typical education would include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent in Computer Science, or equivalent combination of college, certifications, and work experience.
- Typical experience would include three to five years of experience working with networks and personal computers, one year of which shall have been in a lead capacity.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
- Requires some work be performed after normal working hours and is subject to being on call to solve problems, provide back-up for staff, etc.
- Lift/move computers and related equipment up to 50 pounds.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
- Positive past employment references.
- Review of driver history record.
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older).
- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.
Veteran’s Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.

Holidays:
An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.
Vacation:
Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.
Sick Leave:
Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.
Health Insurance:
Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.
Retirement:
Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System.
Administrative Leave:
Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.
Deferred Compensation Plans:
Available for interested employees.
Union Dues:
Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues.
Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program:
Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
