Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation

Job Objective: To provide technical assistance and research required to design, install, monitor, and troubleshoot computer systems networks to meet data processing information needs of City departments.

Essential Functions

  1. Troubleshoots systems failures to determine the reason for that failure; reviews functioning of hardware and software to locate and resolve system failures based on established documentation and configuration to ensure proper operation of the system.
  2. Coordinates work activities with the Network Coordinator Senior and Network Analyst to manage Active Directory, creates and deletes user accounts, sets file permissions, and multi-factor authentication.
  3. Operates a computer console to monitor functioning of the systems network; documents systems failures.
  4. Operates systems network hardware and software to test functioning of the system and to schedule functions assigned to the network.
  5. Consults with vendors and software publishers, reviews literature and technical documents, and searches the Internet to obtain information for solving problems and investigating purchase options.
  6. Reviews data processing needs of systems users and provides technical information to users and technical staff for development of solutions.
  7. Provides technical information to systems users and technical staff for use in developing system network responses for data processing needs.
  8. Assigns and inputs network addressing protocols based on systems addressing documentation and systems configuration.
  9. Performs entry of security protocols from assigned documentation to ensure proper firewall security and network access.
  10. Maintains documentation and records of systems testing and problem resolutions developed.
  11. Conducts training on the proper use of network workstations and personal computers including system and network capabilities.
  12. Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.

Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of college or vocational/technical school coursework in Computer Science or a related area; two (2) years experience in computer systems network installation and maintenance, utilizing Microsoft Network Operating System software to include experience reviewing and setting file permissions, granting and removing access to folders, troubleshooting and resetting passwords and related duties. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Regular part-time employees who work 1,500 hours shall receive six (6) days of Sick Leave upon the completion of the 1,500 hours. If unused, this Sick Leave shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of fifteen (15) days (120 hours). Regular, full-time non-probationary employees who transfer to Regular, part-time positions will receive credit for the previous year’s service for purposes of Sick Leave accrual and may carry over accrued Sick Leave accrual up to the maximum noted above.

Regular part-time employees who were in pay status (vacation, sick leave, or actual hours worked) for at least 1,500 hours during the year shall receive the following Vacation Leave:

Up to 10 years of service (40 hrs.) = 5 days per year
10 years or more (60 hrs.) = 7-1/2 days per year
