POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a highly technical position responsible for overseeing the design, installation, management, maintenance and documentation of the Department’s Active Directory Forest infrastructure.
Perform duties associated with being an Enterprise Administrator for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Enterprise, including but not limited to: Perform schema updates as needed; Monitor replication health in the DOT and Quality Assurance Domain (QAD) forests; Monitor Domain Name System (DNS) health in the DOT and QAD zones; Coordinate updates to the Key Management Server (KMS); Develop scripts related to updating Active Directory; Perform a yearly health check with Microsoft and coordinate the resolution of issues discovered during the Microsoft health check; Manage the FDOT and DOT domain controllers across the state; Provide troubleshooting support for all domains in the DOT and QAD forests; Develop, create and deploy group policies as requested by Management to all domains in the DOT and QAD forests; Maintain documentation of the DOT and QAD forests; Advise management on statewide Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy issues; Represent the Enterprise Administrators group on various teams.
Coordinate the activities of the Statewide Enterprise Administrators.
Monitor system performance and equipment capacity requirements of assigned servers. Monitors network for unexpected traffic, documenting and addressing issues with users as necessary.
Analyze, document, and perform the implementation, maintenance and support of assigned infrastructure components, working with vendor support staff and representatives and other department staff.
Develop and executes a plan of action for the distribution and setup of equipment to meet specifications of technical standard operating procedures.
Read technical manuals and brochures, studies approved online courseware, attends approved webcasts and seminars to maintain technical knowledge of potential problems, available resolutions pertaining to problems and upgrade planning.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER OPERATING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING ACTIVE DIRECTORY, USER PROVISIONING, PRINTING, FILE SYSTEMS, PROCESS MONITORING, SUPPORT TECHNIQUES AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND SOFTWARE; ABILITY TO DESIGN, CONFIGURE, IMPLEMENT AND SUPPORT THE DOMAIN INFRASTRUCTURE; ABILITY TO DESIGN, MANAGE, DOCUMENT, AND TRAIN STAFF IN ACTIVE DIRECTORY STRUCTURE AND GROUP POLICY DESIGN; ABILITY TO PLAN, ORGANIZE, MANAGE AND TRACK PROJECTS; ABILITY TO LEAD AND PARTICIPATE ON TEAMS; KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER SOFTWARE, HARDWARE, AND FIRMWARE RELATIVE TO SERVERS, PERSONAL COMPUTERS, LOCAL AREA NETWORK/WIDE AREA NETWORK ENVIRONMENTS; ASSIST IN AND COORDINATE DISASTER RECOVERY EFFORTS; ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY; ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING; ABILITY TO RESEARCH INFORMATION; ABILITY TO READ, UNDERSTAND, AND COMPLY WITH THE DEPARTMENT’S POLICIES, PROCEDURES, GUIDELINES, AND PRACTICES RELATING TO NETWORK AND SECURITY STANDARDS; ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION FOR SUPPORTED SYSTEMS; ABILITY TO PROVIDE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on-call” (24 hour duty) when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree from a college or university and four years of experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming or in planning or designing distributed computer systems; or a bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems. Experience as described above can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
