POSITION PURPOSE: Plan, direct, secure, and participate in the design, installation, and connectivity of computer systems and network infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the companies’ service provider network.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Train, direct and evaluate the priorities, work programs, people and resource allocation within the DFN Network Operations team.
- Develops, implements, and maintains networking standards, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates and participates in regular on-call and maintenance schedules.
- Act as subject matter expert for all DFN’s network technology, including final escalation point for DFN’s network hardware and software systems.
- Recommend, install, configure, and maintain equipment essential for the delivery of high-quality broadband voice and data services delivered over multiple technologies.
- Participates in 24×7 critical alerting group and responds to major service delivery outages.
- Monitors health and usage of network infrastructure to project future capacity needs and meet or exceed service-level objectives.
- Act as network point person for installation, construction, operation, and break-fix remediation, with root cause analysis of DFN equipment associated with Central Office and Customer Premise Equipment.
- Needs to be familiar with and ensure compliance with best practices in Cyber Security.
- Communicate with stakeholders regarding system status, service updates, planned outages, unplanned disruptions, and service delivery issues.
- Work with field design and installation technicians to ensure timely, efficient, and proper installation and configuration of equipment and connection to the customers’ network.
- Performs other related duties to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Network Operations department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years’ experience managing and maintaining IT operations including networking and IT computer systems with preference to deploying Juniper or Arista platforms. Bachelor’s degree required.
- Ability to coach, mentor and help other team members learn knowledge or skills in specific technology areas.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with various levels of management, end users and vendors in a friendly, encouraging, and thoughtful manner.
- Fundamental knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model.
- Network Engineering experience: should be familiar with DNS, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, IBGP, ISIS, OSPF, EVPN, MPLS, Netflow, SNMP, Radius and other related protocols.
- Competent with Local and Wide Area Networking equipment, Virtual Operating Systems, Firewalls, Passive Optical Networking, and other related technologies
- Experience with central office maintenance including power, cooling, back-up generation and fiber cabling.
- Experience overseeing transport systems including CDWM, DWDM, and ROADM.
- Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.
- Experience with virtualization environments including knowledge of public and private clouds.
- The ability to make reasoned judgements and plot an appropriate course of action in a time sensitive manner.
- Experience with data backup systems, disaster recovery, and retention policies.
- Experience implementing and maintaining proactive monitoring technologies to ensure system uptime SLAs are met.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license.
