The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Job Description

If you are an Engineer with a strong interest in mechanical design, manufacturing, and testing, and want to work directly with world class engineers, scientists, researchers and technicians that support the world’s best Navy, apply today!

In this position, you will have opportunities to work with groups responsible for the technology development and component/system design/analysis in support of the current and next generation of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Specific duties may include:

  • Analysis and testing of new naval nuclear propulsion technologies
  • Development of improved manufacturing process to improve cost and decrease development span times
  • Component/system design, analysis, and support of primary and secondary system development
  • Integration of the mechanical work with the broader reactor plant design team (including electrical, structural, performance, and nuclear engineers)

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.

Preferred Skills

Strong academic performance. Ability to work on an individual assignment as well as being a member of a small team. Experience working in a team environment with interface groups such as mechanical design, manufacturing, and test/experiment design and execution. Demonstrated leadership skills. Experience in writing technical reports or engineering evaluations. Previous co-op or intern experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to be trained to learn new skills as needed.

Pay Range

$64,500 – $96,700 frequency

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
