The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Job Description

Several entry level positions are available that offer unique opportunities to perform reactor performance and thermal hydraulic analyses in support of current and next generation of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Duties include integrated plant and system analysis, core thermal hydraulic analysis, casualty analysis, and reactor plant/core modeling.

The successful candidate will be expected to learn codes and tools for reactor plant and thermal analyses as well as interface with stakeholders across many project disciplines.

A knowledgeable staff is available for mentoring, training, and guidance for new and developing engineers. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.

Preferred Skills

Able to work on individual assignments as well as being a member of a small team. Cumulative GPA of 3.2 and above on a 4.0 scale. Coursework in thermal/hydraulic design and analysis including heat transfer, reactor hydraulics, multi-phase flow, and statistics. Demonstrated leadership skills. Experience in writing technical reports and/or engineering evaluations. Previous co-op or intern experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willing to be trained to learn new skills as needed.

Pay Range

$64,500 – $96,700 frequency

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
