Job Summary
The Northwest Arts Center is seeking a Camp & Program Assistant to support the supervision of children ages 4 – 10 through camp and programming activities such as arts & crafts, song & games, lunch and breaks and outdoor play, while providing a safe supervised environment for participants.
Training begins the week of June 19-23, 2023.
Summer camps begin June 26, 2023 and run through August 18, 2023.
Additional hours through the school year may be available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in supervising a group of children, maintaining discipline within the group at all times.
- Play and lead a variety of active games and activities with children.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and attractive classroom environment.
- Maintain supplies and equipment.
- Track and Log lost and found items.
- Be open, friendly and approachable to campers, parents and other staff members.
- Set a good example for campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules and sportsmanship.
- Meet and communicate regularly with on-site supervisors regarding concerns, updates and challenges.
- Provide a safe environment for participants and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Assist with program set-up and take-down.
- Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, trustworthy and willing to put forth a good effort.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of all participants.
- Ability to work as a member of a team under supervision.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.
- Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically play and demonstrate games, work with arts and crafts materials.
- Indoor and outdoor recreational environment subject to noise that varies from low to high, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions.
- Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
- Strong stamina.
- Ability to perform work that is strenuous and/or repetitive.
- Work involves talking, hearing, and using hands to manipulate, feel, and operate objects. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Fine motor skills.
- Near and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 30 pounds.
- Employee may be required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Ability to work with large groups of individuals.
