Who We Are: Political Research Associates
Political Research Associates (PRA) is a national nonprofit devoted to supporting movements that are building a more just and inclusive democratic society. We provide research, strategy, and briefings to expose movements, institutions, and ideologies that undermine human rights. PRA publishes The Public Eye magazine quarterly. Our office is located in Somerville, Massachusetts. Religion Dispatches is a publication of PRA, covering the intersection of religion, politics, and culture. Who You Are: Communications Intern, Religion Dispatches Intern
You have a passion for engaging with and thinking critically about the role of religion in U.S. culture and politics. You are a junior or senior in college, a recent graduate, or have developed a similar level of skill and experience through non-traditional means who is considering a career in journalism, communications, or religious studies. We will consider other candidates who are otherwise excellent fits.
What You Will Do:
- Social media support: identify quotes to highlight, draft copy, create graphics, compile analytics data, and (optional) create Instagram reels.
- Clean and organize religiondispatches.org web database of articles, tags, and contributor bios.
- Research authors to potentially solicit for Religion Dispatches to increase the diversity of RD authorship.
- Compile weekly newsletter and weekend story roundup content.
- Research to populate RD’s contributor database with author information.
The RD intern reports to the Communications Director and is supported by the Editorial Coordinator and Editor of Religion Dispatches.

Location & Schedule
Our internship program will be fully remote for Summer 2023. Our office operates from 9am – 5pm on East Coast time. We are only able to accept applications from candidates who will be physically located in and performing work from one of the following states: Alaska, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, or Rhode Island.
Internship orientation will take place during the first two full weeks in June. Interns are required to be available for orientation sessions from 2-5pm ET on the following days: June 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15. After the mandatory orientation period, interns set their work schedule in consultation with their supervisor. Interns work approximately 10-15 hours per week, during PRA office hours of 9am – 5pm ET, for 10-12 weeks (including the orientation weeks) for a total internship of up to 150 hours.
Benefits
$17/hour, up to 150 hours.
