Nutrition: School Operations Manager

BASIC FUNCTION:

The School Operations Manager oversees all aspects of school-based operations. This includes the development and implementation of department operation strategies and activities related to school cafeterias. The Schools Operations Manager will coordinate and direct personnel, communications, information, quality control functions, and services to ensure smooth and efficient school-based operations. The Schools Operations Manager will supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. This position will report directly to the Director of Nutrition Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Services, Public Health, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science or comparable program
  • 5+ years of operations management experience, preferably in a school or education setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state food safety, sanitation, and operations regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills to recommend departmental improvements.
  • Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing a team and providing technical assistance and training.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Food Safety Training Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in the development and implementation of policies, practices, and procedures for the operations in school cafeterias to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  2. Assist in the development and execute strategic and marketing plans to meet department and district objectives.
  3. Provide work direction to school Coordinators, Cafeteria Managers, and Cafeteria
  4. Evaluate employee performance, and participate in hiring, promotions, discharges, and transfers.
  5. Investigate and resolve employee concerns and assist with corrective disciplinary processes.
  6. Ensure compliance with sanitation regulations, track labor hours, and manage inventory and resources for school cafeterias.
  7. Analyze department data to recommend cost-effective and program-effectiveness improvements.
  8. Ensure employees receive required food safety training and coordinate equipment-specific training.
  9. Assist in researching new equipment and determining equipment and supply needs, providing cost analysis and requisitioning as necessary.
  10. Prepare reports and records, and coordinate with other district departments, school site principals, vendors, and manufacturers.
  11. Assist in preparing, monitoring, and analyzing cafeteria budgets, and ensure compliance with department financial goals.
  12. Provide regular reports to the Director of Nutrition Services on school operations and progress toward goals.
  13. Perform related duties as assigned by the Director to meet the particular needs of the building/unit and must demonstrate participation in and contributions to the goals of the district cross-functional teams.
