OATH/ECB Hearing Representative

Under close supervision, receives training and practical experience in Department legal work in the Administrative Enforcement Unit (AEU). Responsibilities to include:
• Receives training in and assists with prosecuting Department of Buildings (DOB) summonses/violations at OATH/ECB. Promptly reporting to OATH/ECB locations throughout the five boroughs on a daily basis to represent the Department on these cases.
• Legal writing, including assisting with the preparation of appeals, responses, motions and other documents relating to the continuing prosecution of DOB summonses/violations.
• Identifying and retrieving appropriate documents and evidence for hearings.
• Promptly and accurately notifying AEU supervisors of important issues and outcome of hearings, adjournments and other matters connected to summons prosecution.
• Receives training in and assists with pre-hearing preparation, including general research for upcoming cases and follow through of previous cases handled.
• Performing in-house assignments relating to OATH/ECB adjudication of summonses issued by DOB.
• Actively undertaking and participating in special projects and assignments.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.

Preferred Skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of Building Code, Zoning, Multiple Dwelling Law or land use law.
• Familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office programs, Lexis-Nexis, West Law, etc.

Additional Information

The salary is $62,397 for new hires. City employees with at least two years of continuous City service are entitled to $71,757.
