The Public Art Program Manager administers all aspects of the Office of Arts and Culture’s Public Art Program. The Public Art Manager supervises four staff members who coordinate 30-35 permanent artwork commissions, develop and present artists’ workshops, give tours of public art, and coordinate community outreach and education. Public Art conservation and collection management is managed by a Collection Manger who reports to the Public Art Manager.
Essential Functions
- Develops a vision for necessary updates to the Public Art Program of the City of Dallas. Conducts public input sessions with key stakeholders, including but not limited to: community members, artists, businesses, City departments that coordinate projects with the Public Art team, and staff to update and innovate along national best practices and to advance the goals of the 2018 Dallas Cultural Plan.
- Develops annual Public Art plans and manages project timelines and budgets for Public Art programs in coordination with six different City departments (Bond, Streets, Transportation, Park and Recreation, Water, and Aviation).
- Manages and develops four Public Art Coordinators, each of whom coordinates 7-8 Public Art projects concurrently, from initial development through installation.
- Oversees Collections Manager, who administers Public Art collection management and conservation for the ~400 pieces of Public Art.
- Responds to requests from the City Manager’s Office and Mayor and Council Office for specific information, reports and/or recommendations.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Public Art Committee of the City Council- appointed Arts and Culture Advisory Commission.
- Liaises and communicates with key external stakeholder groups, including City Council, City Council appointees, Inspire Art Dallas (non-profit Friends of Public Art group), City-contracted architects and construction firms working on bond projects, and neighborhood associations.
- Pursues opportunities to enhance the Public Art Program, including public education and partnerships with external entities (e.g., Public Improvement Districts).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Seven (7) years in public art management, working with artists, and planning public art projects. Five (5) years personnel supervision experience.
Licenses:
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Education:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in art history, arts administration, urban planning, architecture, business administration, public administration, or related field.

- Coordination of public art events in partnership with community stakeholders.
