General Purpose
Manages the day-to-day functions of substation design engineering of a geographic territory, region, location or functional unit that has a significant impact on corporate, business unit, or organizational objectives. Establishes and implements business objectives, strategies, and plans. Manages and allocates financial and employee resources. Responsible for selecting, coaching, and developing employees and responsible for management of employee evaluation and salaries. Implements and supports Company programs and policies. Responsible for establishment and adherence to department budget.
Responsibilities
• Manage and approve substation engineering activities, studies and designs associated with a large volume of capital, generation interconnect, transmission interconnect, reliability improvement and load addition projects.
• Coordinate and provide input with planning engineering to incorporate requirements and layout alternatives for future substation projects.
• Provide excellent customer service by overseeing the production of accurate issue of construction substation design and construction specifications.
• Apply engineering and environmental principles to support the Company’s T&D operations, including facilities technical studies, planning, and implementing capital projects.
• Ensure field operations are supported for equipment failure, problem resolution and capital project construction support.
• Responsible for daily communication of expectations, coaching employees, providing ongoing feedback, and working collaboratively with other departments.
• Facilitate change, develop others, foster continuous improvement and drive for compliance to a developed standard.
• Coordinate with the engineering standards to develop and update designs through implementation of published standards. Provide feedback and proposed design change options.
• Assess industry practices as well as local factors that have a direct impact on performance both physical and financial.
• Ensure that the best technical processes and engineering practices are applied across the substation design department.
• Oversee process centered transition activities and special projects.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, or local regulations.
• Recommend and implement action plans for achieving objectives.
• Select, coach, and develop employees.
• Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university ; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of seven years experience in operations, maintenance, engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of three years experience in people management.
• Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, execute policy, monitor resources, and manage the development or implementation of a system, program, or process.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to completion and implementation.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate employees.
• Knowledge of Company’s strategic plan, objectives for specific area, as well as Company policies, procedures, and practices.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, Title V, etc) and applicable codes such as NESC, NEC, IEEE.
• Knowledge and experience in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
• Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation applications and SAP.
Preferences
• Advanced Degree.
• Active licensed professional engineer
• Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills is highly desirable.
• Experience in budget preparation, analysis and cost tracking.
• Experience with facility constructability, process centered organizations, project management, contract administration and work planning, scheduling and tracking.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
