DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
HOURS: Approximately 20 – 28 hours per week – days, nights and weekends;
The Parks & Recreation Department is a 7-day operation.
This is a position working in the marketing division of the Parks & Recreation Department, assisting with marketing of the department and facilities which will include the use of social media apps and websites. The employee will be involved in developing content for and managing the department’s social media outlets and websites. Responsibilities may include website maintenance, photography, tracking the progress of marketing efforts, conducting surveys of members/patrons, involvement with special events and other projects as assigned by the Marketing Specialist. This position requires driving to the various Recreation facilities and sites in and outside of Dearborn.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of effective outreach techniques using social media as appropriate for a municipality.
- Knowledge of website content management technology.
- Written communication skills with demonstrated ability to compose written materials appropriate for traditional and social media.
- Ability to design and layout graphic materials for marketing materials.
- Ability to effectively communicate to the public, co-workers, and management both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow established departmental procedures, learn new tasks and adapt to operational changes readily.
- Ability to demonstrate a professional business manner and professional phone etiquette.
- Some knowledge of operations, procedures, services and objectives of municipal government.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- College coursework or specialized training in marketing, journalism, public relations, or a closely related field; or web design and graphic design.
- Demonstrated experience in a position with responsibilities that include effectively communicating through websites and social media.
- Knowledge of computers, Adobe software applications, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace.
EXAMINATION PROCESS:
Submit verification of degree and transcripts (legible student copies acceptable) and two short professional writing samples with official online city application. Interviews will be scheduled based upon evaluation of credentials.
POST OFFER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory completion of criminal history, physical, and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
