Description
Work involves performing a variety of administrative, programming, and professional duties in the Senior Center and Department of Parks and Recreation.
Under direction of the Senior Center Coordinator/Manager, and Assistant Coordinator performs varied assignments requiring thorough knowledge of department’s goals and objectives. Position and exercises independent judgment and organizational skills in performance of responsibilities.
Examples Of Duties
Staffing the Young at Heart Senior Center while assisting members in signing up for programming, learning about services, and maintaining a safe environment for all members.
Assists the Senior Center Coordinator in the implementing and delivery of the Senior Center’s daily programs, and events.
May serve as a chaperone on senior day trips as needed.
Coordinates the preparation and distribution of the 4-month Senior Center calendar and additional promotional materials (i.e. flyers).
Processes registrations for Senior Center programs, activities, and events. Accepts and secures payments through ActiveNet.
Responds to customer requests and complaints (in person or by phone) and attempts to resolve them or directs customer to appropriate staff.
Processes and maintains Senior Center membership records.
Maintains a friendly atmosphere in the Senior Center and assists both members and potential members in finding services and programs.
May be asked to assist with the Parks and Recreation Department’s special projects and events.

Qualifications
Graduation from high school and an interest or passion for working with senior adults.
Will consider any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
CPR/AED certification required, Food Safety certification (City will work with employee to obtain).
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office. Will be trained on ActiveNet registration and facility reservation program.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
Supplemental Information
Seniors are identified as an at-risk population. Senior Center Assistants must pass a criminal background check before starting work.
This position is on call, possibility of 20-30 hours per week.
Position is considered Temporary and will not be able to work more than twelve months consecutively.
Permitted to work up to 1559 hours in a fiscal year.
