Position Summary

The Town of Breckenridge Open Space and Trails Division is seeking dedicated and customer service oriented individuals for the position of Open Space & Trails Technician – Summer Seasonal. Individuals in this position are responsible for a variety of general trails construction and maintenance duties, including monitoring and inventorying natural resources and public uses on open space properties; installing/ maintaining signs, fences, and boundary markers; overseeing volunteers on restoration and trail improvement projects; inspecting and maintaining natural surface trails and associated features; and maintaining tools and equipment. The incumbent in this position must demonstrate initiative and leadership by assuming responsibility and accountability for project completion and for ensuring that the work quality meets the expectations of community users, the Breckenridge Recreation Department and Open Space & Trails Division.

This Summer Seasonal position is a Full Time, 40 hours per week position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 21 years of age or older, with a High School diploma.
  • Must have the ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a background check, including an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record review.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License at time of hire.
  • CPR/First Aid, AED and Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) Certification required within 60 days of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSES/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Natural Resource Management or a related field preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of open space and trails related work experience, or a commensurate amount of related construction experience preferred.
  • Experience operating light or heavy equipment and/or carpentry skills desired.
  • Chainsaw operation certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers desired, including recruiting, training, directing, organizing, and motivating trail volunteers.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Additional Information

Typical Hiring Pay Range: $22.00 – $24.35 per hour.
Full Pay Range: $22.00 – $27.30 per hour.

SENSITIVITY STATUS
Because the Town’s Recreation Department positions may involve direct contact with children, the Town requires that the incumbent in this position must have a clear criminal history that bears on his or her fitness to have responsibility for the safety and well-being of children.

WORK SCHEDULE
Primary shifts for this position are generally four 10-hour, typically Monday-Friday, although some weekend shifts may be required. Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early morning, late nights, weekends and holidays. All interested applicants must be available to work through the Summer Seasonal period established by the Open Space & Trails Division, which generally extends through mid-October. All work schedules, hours and dates of work are at the discretion of the Town and may be altered at any time.
