You will work closely with all other levels of our software engineers and is responsible for architecting, designing, building, and enhancing highly available and scalable systems used by customers worldwide. You will help direct major deliverables of projects through all aspects of the software development lifecycle including scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, and unit testing. Additionally, you will determine and recommend the best designs based on customer business objectives, timelines, and other resource constraints. In this role, there is the potential to support multiple contracts to help provide growth and broadening opportunities within Leidos. Most of the work will be on site in Leidos’ facility in Omaha, Nebraska. Some level of remote/work from home is possible.

Primary Responsibilities

  • All aspects of the software development lifecycle including scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, and automated testing within an Agile and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery model.
  • Own the delivery of an entire piece of a system or application and serve as a technical lead on medium to large, complex projects
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development.
  • Communicate progress against plan to senior engineers and project managers, including identifying risks, opportunities, and dependencies.
  • Ensure team adheres to Agile processes and software engineering best practices.
  • Mentor other engineers in the art of building complex, web scale systems.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug mission critical software source code using modern software development languages and tools.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, working within broadly defined parameters.
  • Use Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git to manage work and collaborate with your teams.
  • Support creation and updating of all relevant documentation and specifications for design, development, and testing.
  • Identify potential roadblocks and develop around them.
  • Plan and estimate development tasks and work to improve performance metrics.
  • Develop maintainable code that implements user stories.
  • Develop automated tests leveraging a continuous integration process.
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development.
  • Build software solutions where the solution is not always well defined but always considers the customer first.
  • Mentor junior developers and interns.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of software engineering experience. Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Specific skills in one or more of the following client technologies preferred:
    • Modern React
    • Tanstack Query/ReactQuery
    • StyleComponents
    • Playbook
    • CesiumJS
    • TypeScript
  • Good experience with front-end unit testing tools like Jasmine, Sinon, Jest/Vitest, and Mocha.
  • Proficiency with at least one Relational Database Management System (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret clearance or greater based on a Special Background Investigation and be eligible for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), Nuclear Command and Control (NC2) and Special Access Program (SAP) access.
  • Familiar with containerization (Docker/Podman).
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Good understanding CI/CD pipelines & devops. Specific knowledge of Jenkins, Gitlab preferred.
  • Familiar with frontend development environments and toolsets like Vite, Webpack, and Yarn.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead.
  • Proficiency with multiple operating systems (Linux, Windows).

Pay Range: Pay Range $97,500.00 – $176,250.00
