San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Operations Manager for our El Cajon team!

In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at El Cajon Campus including animal care, admissions, adoptions and guest relations. In partnership with other Operations Leadership, this position manages animal inventory under their functional area in order to ensure all animals receive humane care and are moved along the appropriate pathways.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborates with the Campus Director, and other Operations Leadership as needed, in the development and implementation of El Cajon Campus policies, practices, procedures and attainment of Campus operating goals.
  • Acts as an advocate for animals housed at the El Cajon Campus facility, maintaining a daily inventory of animals, facilitating transfers to other campuses or approved adoption partners, and communicating on a regular basis with other Operations leaders on the status of each animal.
  • Directly supervises Operations staff at El Cajon Campus. Provides guidance, coaching, mentoring, monitoring of performance, training and instruction, orientation and disciplinary actions as needed. Collaborates with Campus Director to make hiring and termination decisions.
  • Prepares schedules, gives work direction, and sets expectations to ensure timely and successful completion of work for animal care, admissions, guest relations and adoptions staff related to daily routine and care of animals that are under their functional area, as well as, commitments to Animal Services programs such as behavior assessment and euthanasia.
  • Ensures that humane care and proper attention is provided to all animals, including situations of restraining animals, appropriate treatment and exercise for animals. Assists with daily kennel activities when needed.
  • Prepares the annual budget that is part of their functional area and maintains expenses within budgetary guidelines. Responsible for oversight and management of animal service supply and inventory including submitting purchasing requests that are under their functional area.
  • Ensures that guests receive excellent customer service and accurate information while upholding SDHS confidentiality policy and resolve customer grievances when they arise.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Zoology or other related field or completion of sufficient coursework to successfully perform the required duties of the position.
  • Four (4) years of full time progressively responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary hospital required.
  • One (1) year of supervisor experience required. Two (2) years supervisor experience preferred.
  • EBI (Euthanasia by Injection) certification required at time of hire, or candidate must obtain within the first year of employment.

Location: Based at our El Cajon Campus.

Pay: Starting range is between $65,000 – $73,125 per year. The actual starting salary rate is determined by your related education and experience.
