OPERATIONS MANAGER – Medium Voltage

Compensation Range for this Role: $115,000 to $130,000.

General Responsibilities

Maintain open communication lines with all working relationships

Specific Responsibilities

Ensure safe work practices and promote a culture of safety

Oversee all Medium Voltage Operations from estimating through completion of work
• Raceway Install and cable pull
• Vault installation
• Termination of MV cabling
• Installation and termination of MV switchgear, equipment, pad mount switches, sectionalizers, and transformers
• Safety on the projects and coordinate with safety professionals

Understand and preform wire pull calculations

Review MV gear submittals and coordinate proper rough-in

Recognition of performance, corrective actions, counseling statements and follow up documentation

Interview, hire and separate employees in department

Oversee onboarding within the department

Identify and forecast manpower needs

Provide operational oversight of timesheets and expenses

Provide general oversight of company vehicles, tools and assets

Bring together the most effective teams to provide operational excellence

Drive powerful internal and external customer service

Understand project requirements to drive cost efficiencies and deploy assets (people and material) in the most productive and timely way possible

Strong understanding of construction accounting system, projected costs, budget uploads and overall financials for the operation

Promote and direct a strong collaboration between Preconstruction, Operations, Project Management and Support teams in all areas of the company

Drive organizational development through understanding and utilizing our craftsmen strengths

Seek to understand their development needs and ensure that development happens

Perform job site walks at 30-60-90% complete, provide status, progress and financial reports as required

Ensure compliance and adherence to the organization’s structure, core values, and mission/vision statements

Build a highly efficient, collaborative, and dedicated operational team that effectively partners with other departments to achieve the company’s goals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

The construction process: scheduling manpower, materials, tools and equipment required

Constructability and the construction process

Cost management, forecasting and Cost to Completes

Estimating and estimate reviews

Understanding of instrumentation and controls

Ability to perform Quality Assurance inspections on work performed

Understanding of applications of NERC standards

Familiarity of MV Generators

Understanding of Theory of Operation of Medium Voltage protective devices

Understands Hazards associated with insulating oils and gases

Understanding of Reclosure operations and controls

Familiar with grounding practices including discharging, hanging, grounded switching

Familiar with ground disturbance procedures / permits

Ability to analyze Hi Potential Test on medium voltage cable

Familiar with very low frequency cable testing

Confined Space Trained / Qualified

Substations

MV Switchgear, sectionalizers, pad mount switches and transformers

Underground conduit system installation and Vault installation

Wire pulling and MV Terminations

Control Cabling installation for relays and termination

MV Commissioning including Hi pot testing, tensioning reports, phase rotation and contact voltage testing

Grounding grids and mats installed at specific depths

Understanding of relay and control schematics

Skill in:

Terminate multiple types of MV Cables; 200A load break elbows, 600A T-Body, paddle connections, splices, concentric neutral and tape shield

REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires a minimum of high school diploma and 10 years of experience in a Construction related field, three years of which should be in a management role.
  • MV estimating and project management experience
  • Certified NCSCB
  • 3 years documented experience in MV terminations
  • MV Commissioning experience
