Operations Shift Supervisor (OSS)

The Operations Shift Supervisor (OSS) will supervise and coordinate a shift of operating personnel for the MATEP, LLC, satellite facilities, and utility distribution system. The OSS will prepare and review log sheets and other operating records and reports. The OSS will direct in-plant training and evaluation programs. The Operations Shift Supervisor will coordinate operations of utility services with hospital institutions engineering personnel. This position is located, Boston, MA and reports directly to the Operations Manager.

What you’ll do:

  • Supervise and coordinate the operation of steam, electrical, and refrigeration equipment to meet the requirements of the distribution system
  • Establish procedures and standardized methods of work
  • Identify and investigate problems with plant equipment, determine corrective measures, and directs activities necessary to implement adjustments
  • Provide emergency response services for customers as required
  • Act as incident commander, Emergency Operations Director, or fulfills other emergency response role, as required
  • Work closely with other managers and supervisors to develop schedules and plans based on the plant’s operating requirements and equipment needs. Aids in the development of maintenance, outage, and preventive maintenance programs. Meets formally and informally with all departments to ensure plans are supported and all requirements such as operating conditions, labor, contract services, and environmental and safety programs are in place
  • Prepare and review logs, night orders, and other operating records pertaining to utilities production, fuel use and receipt, lube oil, gas and water use, and equipment performance and repair
  • Order Lube Oil, fuel, gas, or other materials necessary to operate
  • Prepares monthly oil and gas reading reports for the supervisor, including but not limited to, water and sewer abatement
  • Prepare daily time reports, material requisitions, work orders, safety work orders, and special reports regarding plant incidents and operating problems
  • Ensure employee compliance with company safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Provide leadership for daily implementation of safety and environmental programs
  • Perform work with highest regard for employee safety and plant reliability
  • Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes
  • Practice and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards and, where applicable, local, state, and federal laws
  • Must participate in mandatory training and other programs
  • Fulfill other emergency responses, and duties as assigned by management

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Five (5) years of experience in the operation of utility plants
  • Must have valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineer’s License
  • A First-Class Engineer’s License is preferred
  • Must have a valid CFC-2 and CFC-3 license; or a CFC-universal license or obtain within 1 year
  • Will be required to obtain a 2nd Class Industrial Wastewater License within the first 18 months of employment
  • Must have demonstrated technical ability in the operation and maintenance of industrial systems
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of power generation, power generation equipment and technology

Additional Information/Conditions:

  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of all plant systems and understanding of process diagrams, simple electrical diagrams, and operating instructions
  • Extensive knowledge in the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment in a generating and steam production station
  • Knowledge of maintenance requirements for gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers and chiller equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Maximo CMMS programs
  • Ability to use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and take direction from others
  • May be required to work overtime – relief, off-shift, and emergency coverage (nights, weekends, etc.) and/or other, as needed
  • Must be able to work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance
  • Ability to use company computer, calculator
  • Working Environment (Indoors – 80% Outdoors – 20%)

  • Salary Range: $75,395 – $183,300 USD annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
