This position will oversee a 2-3-member construction crew, has full knowledge of underground fiber installation operations, and is an expert heavy equipment operator in telecom space. This position will also be required to operate the mini excavator to dig on and around live utilities.
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour DOE

Essential Functions:

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provides mid-level laborer functions including hand digging with a shovel, setting up traffic control, entry level equipment operations, placing fiber, loading materials, etc. on various safety sensitive utility construction sites
- Proficient with utility print and map reading
- Has performed at least 6 months of independent operating of various equipment (directional drill, mini); knows all safety regulations with basic operating skills
- Supports the setup and shut down of utility construction projects including traffic control in various conditions including highways, side streets, parking lots, downtown locations, etc.
- Loads and unloads materials and equipment in from vehicles at construction yards and jobsites
- Assists in identifying hazards by utilizing the pre-task process
- Ensure locates are correct
- Safely and efficiently operate Mini Excavators
- Ensure safe operation of any support equipment
- Constantly communicating with crew members
- Ensure potholes are dug prior to crossing utilities
- Maintains accuracy in all reporting functions
- Assist with JSA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditions
- Assist Laborers with hand digging and pot holing when needed
- Performs other position duties when requested
Success Factors:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
- Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
- Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
Experience and Education:
- Three (3+) plus years’ experience in a construction role is required
- Prior crew coordination experience is preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
