The Work You Will Do:
As an OPS Environmental Specialist I in the Stormwater and Technical Services Program, you will assist staff with a wide range of program activities related to NPDES stormwater. This includes tracking and reporting outreach activities, facilitating and tracking special projects, assisting in rulemaking efforts, and developing program standard operating procedures.

Your role within Stormwater & Technical Services will assist NPDES stormwater staff in the development and implementation of program initiatives and rules, as well as improve compliance with federal and state stormwater regulations. In this position you will interface with members of other divisions within the Department, with members of the regulatory district offices and other agencies, and with members of the regulated community.

Pay:
$20.00/hour (40hrs./week)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- This is a professional environmental position in the Department’s Stormwater and Technical Services program.
- This position is responsible for a variety of special projects and internal process improvements to support program outreach and other initiatives to improve compliance with NPDES stormwater requirements. Duties include researching topics, reviewing and editing, trend analysis, tracking, and creating presentations.
- In this position, you will also assist program staff with stormwater rule development to include the research of applicable laws, regulations, rules, and policies, preparing documents and visual presentations, facilitating and coordinating meetings and workshops, and tracking deadlines and milestones.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of biological, chemical, physical processes as they relate to water quality and the environment.
- Skills in administrative procedures, tracking information and deadlines.
- Skills in the use of computers and software programs utilized for word processing, creating presentations, database management, and communication.
- Skills in conducting background research.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to evaluate problems and identify solutions.
- Ability to prepare reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license.
- A bachelor’s degree OR 4-years of work experience can substitute.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and/or experience with state stormwater management practices.
- Knowledge of federal and state stormwater laws and regulations.
