Job Description: The Center for Spatial Analysis within FWRI provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expertise, products, and support to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and several external partners. We are hiring two GIS specialists to the GIS data quality management team based in St. Petersburg, FL. One position will focus on providing GIS data management, metadata, and ArcGIS Online applications. A second position will focus on creating visually appealing cartographic products that emphasize graphic design elements and first principles of geography. Candidates should indicate in a cover letter if they intend to be considered for one or both positions (i.e., database management and/or cartographic design).
Primary job duties for both positions include:
- Create, update, and maintain geospatial data using ESRI products.
- Create and maintain metadata for GIS data.
- Assist with updates and maintenance of the FWC GIS Databases
- Perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance review processes on GIS datasets according to agency standards.
- Production of map products meeting agency cartographic standards.
- Assist with maintenance of geodata.myfwc.com through ArcGIS Hub.
- Create, update, and maintain geospatial surveys using ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Survey123 Connect
- Create, update, and maintain geospatial web feature services.
- Create, update, and maintain geospatial web applications and dashboards using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Experience Builder, and ArcGIS Dashboards.
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for GIS data and map products from the government and the public.
- Respond to GIS technical assistance requests.
- Participate in outreach activities as required.
- Conduct moderate field work to verify map accuracy, test field collection applications, and support event-driven GIS needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics.
Preferred Experience
Candidates will be given preference if they have an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in geography, GIS, or related fields; knowledge of Florida’s marine and terrestrial environments; and professional experience.
Knowledge, Skill(s), and Abilities: •
- Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) theories and concepts.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS products, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Adobe Products
- Knowledge of spatial data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
- Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret spatial data; engage with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; work independently; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and utilize problem-solving techniques.
WHAT IS OPS EMPLOYMENT? Other Personal Services (OPS) temporary employer/employee relationship used solely for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees do not fill established positions and may not be assigned the duties of any vacant authorized position. OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment and terminations at the pleasure of the agency head or designee.
