Have you been dreaming of a full-time job in outdoor program?
We are seeking an experienced Camping Specialist for our regular, full-time staff who will live at camp during the summer, directing a sleep-away program. In the non-summer months, in addition to planning and preparing for sleep-away camp, this specialist will also support our year-round outdoor programs for Girl Scouts.
Here’s What You Will Be Doing
- Plan and direct one of our four well-established, popular sleep-away camps for youth, ages 5-17 years
- Create and implement outdoor programming for our members to support volunteers in their delivery of virtual and in-person activities at large- and small-scale events
- Collaborate with staff in other departments to support outdoor program needs of Girl Scouts, volunteers, and funding partners
- Partner with Marketing and Communications department and other Camping Services team members in creation of outdoor program marketing materials
- Ensure safety and compliance of programs
Skills Needed to Win
- Passionate about introducing youth to the outdoors in a variety of ways
- Experienced in program and people management, including at least 2 years in youth outdoor education or resident camp program
- Knowledgeable of camp properties and safety management
- Excellent with youth, ages 5-17, and equally skilled at working with adults of all ages and backgrounds
- Superior judgement, especially in times of crisis
- A collaborative leader with confidence and maturity
- Skilled communicator for variety of audiences
- Excellent with Microsoft Office software
- Love being outdoors – ready and able to live at camp from June 1 – mid-August
- Able to work evenings and weekends, regularly
- Aren’t bothered by heat, humidity, rain, sunscreen, or bug repellant
- 25 years old or older
- Have access to automobile for travel throughout the Greater DC Metro Area
- Girl Scout experience, especially as an adult volunteer, very helpful (but not critical)
