Job Announcement
The Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC); Fairfax 9-1-1 is seeking an Outreach Coordinator for the agency’s outreach and recruiting program. This person builds partnerships with organizations, collaborates with our public safety partners, and connects with target communities within Fairfax County and the surrounding area. Also works on new, creative ways to encourage engagement with our community as well as plan, execute, and attend a variety of outreach events, and create and maintain social media platforms. Oversees and supports our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) engagement program, and develops and conduct diversity, equity, and inclusion training on a variety of topics under the One Fairfax initiative.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and comfortable planning and coordinating public safety events. This position also requires effective communication in large and small group settings and has some knowledge of Public Safety Answering Point’s (PSAP) and the Emergency Telecommunications industry.
The assigned functional areas of this position are Public Safety Emergency Telecommunications, Public Relations, Community Outreach, Recruitment, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Program Management, Emergency Management, and Social Media Communications.
Note: The hourly rate for this position will not exceed the midpoint of $36.7833/hour.

- Conducts professional-level work in functions or activities, such as financial, budgetary, procurement, contract administration, human resources, training, information technology, and similar functions;
- Assists with a variety of technical and professional work related to monitoring and reporting on departmental business processes, activities, and outcomes;
- Performs designated segments of projects or programs with well-defined objectives, including activities such as data collection, synthesis of data gathered to support analysis, and documentation of findings and recommendations;
- Performs data collection activities in support of existing studies, projects or programs, including conducting research; participating in interviews; administering customer, organizational or employee surveys; assisting in the facilitation of focus groups; participating in work group collaboration; and mapping or charting of workflow processes;
- Assists with measuring and analyzing indicators of performance, quality, quantity and efficiency of services;
- Compiles and provides business information to management;
- Maintains index or log of standard forms for gathering information from a variety of audiences;
Formats data sets and performs qualitative and descriptive statistical analysis to aggregate and assimilate data for displaying potential patterns and trends; - Assists in implementing business improvements, such as changes to policies, work practices, processes and procedures;
- Contributes to position papers, evaluation reports and presentations.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However, persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Public Safety to include Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)/Public Safety Telecommunications operations
- Two – three years of public speaking
- Two – three years professional experience coordinating, executing, and managing community outreach and recruiting events and DEI training and events
- Two – three years of professional project management experience
- Two – three years professional experience with social media platform programming and internet associations with focus on public safety recruiting and outreach programs
- Professional experience in adult learning and school age children training programs and development of educational material

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, and driver’s license check to the satisfaction of the employer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have the ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time as required. Physically able to write legibly as required by public safety protocols. Ability to communicate effectively in front of large or small groups of people. Travel to work at other locations, to include the alternate 9-1-1 center. Able to perform job using standard agency equipment.
