Description
SUMMARY
The Overnight Youth Treatment Counselor is responsible for providing for the physical and psychological needs of the residents under their care. This position provides Trauma Informed quality youth care, a safe environment, and close intensive supervision of adolescent clients that ensures that all interactions are therapeutic opportunities for learning, growth, and healing.
SCHEDULE
The Overnight Youth Treatment Counselor must be able to work between the hours of 10:30pm-8:30am to accommodate transportation and supervision needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Work in dorms assigned by Treatment Supervisor.
• Supervise where residents are at all times.
• Implement the Level System and Discipline Procedure.
• Calculate the clients’ contracts at night to determine the points earned for the day and the possibility of moving up, down or staying neutral on the Level System.
• Supervise and manage residents while they’re awake during night and during wake-ups from 6:00am – 8:30am with chores, hygiene, and proper general behavior.
• Encourage positive transition from dorm to classrooms.
• Supervise residents at night by making dorm rounds, room checks, and bed checks on a scheduled basis.
• Supervise needed transports for emergencies such as hospitalization, dentist appointments, etc.
• Set effective limits consistent with the treatment plans, team philosophy, and Home-wide disciplinary procedures.
• Attend supervision sessions as required by the Overnight TS or assigned Relief Supervisor.
• Implement specific behavioral objectives as established by the Team.
• Supervise and ensure appropriate resident interactions.
• Record observations of significant behaviors on a daily and nightly basis in logs.
• Encourage residents to participate in all therapeutic activities.
• Complete pocket checks before taking residents to school
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:•
- Four year college degree In the areas of Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or other related field preferred
- Must have minimum of 2 years of college experience OR a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in the human services field
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Ability to pass a physical examination.
- Ability to pass background check with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation
- Ability to pass background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- Ability to gain clearance through the Colorado Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect (TRAILS).
- Have or obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
- Have or obtain QMAP certification.
- Have or obtain certification in TCI.
- Be a Qualified Driver as defined by the DCH Automobile Insurance Policy and complete DCH Van Training to become transport eligible.
