Why does the job exist?

The Painter, Construction & Maintenance worker performs a variety of painting and construction tasks, as well as, building maintenance work such as plumbing (sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, drains), lighting, doors, windows, air filter replacement, lubrication, and wall repair/installations for 31 state-owned buildings.

How does it get done?

The incumbent in this position will:

– Document and track in-progress and completed work orders using an electronic tablet.
– Report job details including time taken, condition, actions taken, and parts/materials required.
– Communicate with supervisor/manager before, during, and after work is complete.
– Conduct a job safety analysis before starting work each day.
– Ensure all authorized parts, materials and tools are available for assigned work.

State of New Mexico Departments and Agencies and State of New Mexico staff, building occupants, customers and the general public.

Ideal Candidate

Experience In:

– Using Computer-Aided Maintenance Manager System (CMMS) or similar applications.
– Maintenance & painting of commercial buildings.
– Job safety practices.
– Customer service skills.

Minimum Qualification

A High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience in painting and/or maintenance of commercial buildings. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

• Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of “semester hours” in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Fast paced setting with varied management schedules. Working in both an interior and exterior setting with a variety of weather conditions. Lifting, pulling, bending and standing for prolonged periods, must be able to lift 25 lbs., must interact well with customer agencies, FMD staff, and building professionals, and a variety of governmental inspectors.
