Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to assist Bureau of Elections management meet the agency’s statutory oversight authority, and serve as the point of contact for all Inspection of Public Records Act requests, as well as serving as the Records Custodian for the agency.
How does it get done?
This position will receive and log incoming inquiries, draft correspondence and provide information regarding ethics and election complaints as well as serve as a subject matter expert in the relevant statutes that the SOS oversees.
Paralegal will serve as the Records Custodian for the agency and will interface with the public, candidates, election officials and agency management to compile and prepare reports, develop and supervise execution of procedures, establish work flow, tracking and reporting processes for complaints and Inspection of Public Records requests received by our office. Will also ensure employees and various other stakeholders are informed of changes in agency policy under the direction of the Bureau of Elections management. Employee must perform advanced legal research required for statutory oversight related to ethics and election laws.

An individual who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong research and writing skills. They should also be adaptable and able to handle confidential information responsibly.
Minimum Qualification
Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies and two (2) years of experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must posses a valid drivers license, obtain a defensive driving certificate, and pass a background check.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel is required. The SOS holds a separate telework policy for this agency.
