Paralegal / Construction Contract Specialist – High Speed Rail

Arcadis is seeking a Paralegal / Construction Contract Specialist to join the team in Selma, CA to manage contracts, oversee deliverables against the contract schedule, evaluating change orders, resolving disputes, maintaining contract compliance, and facilitating effective communication with clients and project stakeholders.

Must be able to work onsite in Selma, CA.

Role description:

The Paralegal / Construction Contract Specialistwill play a vital role in assessing and executing construction claims service strategies and programs to address issues related to contracts, change orders, delays, disputes, and other contractual matters.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Change Order Management: You will evaluate change order requests, assess their merit, estimate the required effort in terms of hours and costs, negotiate with contractors, and document the outcomes in Findings of Facts and Records of Negotiation.
  • Dispute Resolution: You will draft documents to support the change order dispute resolution process, which may involve arbitration. This includes gathering evidence, investigating claims, and preparing finding of fact documents based on the contract agreement.
  • Contract Administration: You will have a deep understanding of the Design-Build delivery method and coordinate responses based on the terms and conditions outlined in the contract. This involves ensuring compliance, maintaining complete contract files, and making recommendations to management and clients regarding contract issues that may impact schedule and quality.
  • Data Management: You will be responsible for entering subcontractor, vendor, and billing information into relevant systems. Additionally, you will participate in project and risk reviews, providing valuable input and support for proposal development.
  • Contract Compliance: You will evaluate customer solicitations to ensure that the contract requirements are clearly defined and documented, and that the capacity to meet these requirements is met. This involves careful review and analysis of contractual obligations and working closely with clients to address any gaps or issues.
  • Client Relations: You will establish and maintain professional business relationships with clients, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing any concerns or inquiries they may have.
  • Construction Claims: As a team leader, you will analyze and prepare complex construction claims, taking responsibility for delivering high-quality reports, presentations, or expert testimonies to clients.
  • Effective Communication: You will interface effectively with clients, coworkers, and other stakeholders, fostering strong working relationships and ensuring clear and efficient communication channels.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of construction claims experience.
  • Heavy civil construction.
  • Paralegal certification or degree

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge and ability to quickly understand principles of construction and contractor means and methods is required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications and organizational skills are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience testifying in court or binding arbitration.
  • Experience on large, complex construction projects
  • Extensive experience in Project Controls, CPM scheduling, delay analysis, productivity analysis, claims and dispute resolution.

The salary range for this position is $122,000 – $183,000.
