The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced Park/General Maintenance Worker II to perform general park and building maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, trash removal, athletic field maintenance, trail maintenance, cleaning and repairing park buildings, and snow removal by working in a team environment. This is a park/general maintenance work at the experienced level, involving operation of most grounds maintenance equipment. Most assignments are as part of a group, but occasionally may work independently. The selected candidates will perform other related duties as assigned.
Please note that the salary range above represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for this position is $35,022 – $48,524. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Examples of Important Duties
- Operating vehicles and equipment including riding mowers, tractors with attachments, trucks, front-end loaders, backhoe.
- Landscaping duties include spreading grass seed, lime, fertilizer, and topdressing on fields by operating tractor with attachments. Also, includes planting, trimming, and pruning trees and shrubs.
- Performs maintenance and installation of park fixtures and furnishings
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks
- Operates light to medium trucks and various pieces of equipment to perform routine park maintenance tasks such as loading and unloading materials
- Assists in setting up, monitoring, and taking down Commission programs and rental events. Informs visitors of rules and regulations. Opens and closes Commission facilities
- Interacts with visitors daily in a courteous and effective manner
- Snow removal and other related weather duties
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisors
Minimum Qualifications
1. Pass Commission medical examination.
2. Two years of experience in grounds keeping, building maintenance, or park maintenance;
3. Ability to read and write.
4. Valid driver’s license.
Supplemental Information
Classification/Specification: Park/General Maintenance Worker II
May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). Ability to lift up to 100 pounds is desirable.

- Two (2) times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 for each

Supplemental and Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)

Sick Leave Bank (Contribution and Benefit hours prorated for part-time employees)
- Employees have 60 days from date of hire to enroll.
- Employee contributes 8 leave hours each year
- Annually covers up to 688 hours for own serious medical condition, and 480 hours for parental responsibilities (birthadoption or foster care), and 80-160 hours for serious medical condition of an immediate family member
