The Southern Region Parks Division has two openings for Park/General Maintenance Worker III’s.
M-NCPPC’s Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County is a well-respected leader in the field with an unprecedented six national gold medals for excellence. The Department provides residents and visitors with quality recreation programs, facilities, and services. We also operate and maintain over 27,000 acres of parkland throughout the county, including land developed to provide parks, picnic areas, athletic fields, historic sites, community centers, and recreation facilities. To maintain the county’s natural beauty, a large percentage of the land has been left undeveloped to serve as buffers and to provide natural open spaces.

Examples of Important Duties
The employee in this position would be responsible for:
- Transport staff from job site to job site
- Transport custodial equipment from job site to job site
- Consistently demonstrate thorough knowledge of the use of cleaning chemicals and compounds through proper and regular use while cleaning park and community buildings.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and properly strip, wax and recondition wood and tile floors as required in a time and safe manner.
- Safely and properly store all supplies, materials, tools and equipment in designated area following each work day.
- Effectively and efficiently operate vehicles and all janitorial equipment, such as buffers and vacuum cleaners.
- Responsible for proper direction and instruction to a small crew on daily maintenance needs.
- Inform crew leader of progress of projects, as well as, any hazards that may arise on the job.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduate or GED, and four years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance, or park maintenance; and demonstrated ability to read and understand materials and instructions and write routine records and reports; or
2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Pass Commission medical examination.
4. Valid driver’s license.
5. Additionally, contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require:
a. Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements upon appointment, or the ability to acquire one within six months.
b. Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment.
c. Certification by the National Playground Safety Institute.

Classification Specification Park/General Maintenance Worker III
The incumbent will work out of the Watkins Maintenance Yard, Sunday through Thursday, 5:00 am – 1:45. Location and schedule are subject to changes reflecting the operational needs at the time of hire.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.

- Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary, maximum of $6,000/month
Supplemental Long-Term Disability Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)
- Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary that exceeds $108,000; capped at $216,000
Basic Life and AD&D Insurance (Employee Pays 20%: Commission Pays 80%)
- Two (2) times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 for each
- Automatic coverage with opt-out provision
Supplemental and Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)
- Supplemental – 1,2,3,4, or 5 times base salary; maximum benefit is $750,000
- Spouse/Dependent Combination – $10,000/$5,000, $20,000/$10,000, or $30,000/$15,000
Sick Leave Bank (Contribution and Benefit hours prorated for part-time employees)
- Employees have 60 days from date of hire to enroll.
- Employee contributes 8 leave hours each year
- Annually covers up to 688 hours for own serious medical condition, and 480 hours for parental responsibilities (birthadoption or foster care), and 80-160 hours for serious medical condition of an immediate family member
