Job Summary

This position performs technical duties in the maintenance of Borough parks, trailheads, lake accesses, and Libraries.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

This position is for the Winter Assignment that starts October 1, 2023 through April 30, 2024.

G1 – DOE
Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

Three (3) years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer employment physical.

Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment to mow grass and remove weeds as assigned; collects leaves and other debris.
  • Maintains campgrounds, trailheads, lake accesses, and boat ramps.
  • Removes fallen limbs and branches; collects litter; removes trash from trash receptacles.
  • Participates in snow removal operations; operates a snow plow as needed.
  • Performs summer ground maintenance at public libraries and other facilities as assigned.
  • Cleans park facilities, including public restrooms.
  • Operates riverboats.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Maintains landscaping; installs plants; trims shrubs and bushes.
  • Maintains a variety of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Lays out and maintains sports fields.
  • Applies fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides as assigned; maintains application records; maintains related tools and equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs irrigation systems as assigned; troubleshoots and resolves problems.
  • Assists in the maintenance of trees as assigned; prunes limbs and branches.
  • Assists in building maintenance and repair functions as needed; performs carpentry, plumbing and electrical duties as assigned.
  • Ensures compliance with department safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Conducts safety inspections of park grounds, facilities and equipment, including playground equipment.
  • Performs related duties.

Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.

Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:

The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $132,900.
