Cordova Recreation and Park District is seeking applications for part-time Park Maintenance Worker Aides (PMWA) to work at the Mather Sports Complex. This position requires a flexible schedule and primarily works weekends. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to work independently, and have strong customer service skills. The PMWA is responsible for locking and arming facilities and communicating with staff and customers, such as tournament directors.

Class Summary
Working under the supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Worker Aide performs both routine tasks of cleaning, maintaining, and setting up District facilities while being knowledgeable of facility rules, procedures, and District policies. The PMWA works closely with District staff to ensure the best possible daily operation of facility rentals and recreation activities.

Essential Functions

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Enforces District and facility rules and procedures including, but not limited to, program rules, facility use, care of equipment and admittance to facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with tournament directors and/or on-site rental leaders and fellow recreation staff.
  • Set up and breakdown of field rental and facility needs in accordance with the daily rental and program schedule. Duties include, but are not limited to, base and mound distance changes, set up, and breakdown of basketball hoops, tables, and chairs.
  • Performs janitorial work before, during, and after recreation programs and field rentals. Empties all trash receptacles, stocks, and restocks restrooms as required. Uses floor cleaning machine to mop floors.
  • Unlocks and locks the facility in accordance with the rental schedule.
  • May also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School graduate or equivalent to a graduation from high school. Must be 18 years of age or older, have strong customer service skills, ability to multitask and perform duties of this classification.

Knowledge of: General janitorial duties in an office setting and cleaning procedures

Ability to: Communicate tactfully with customers and address public and customer questions and concerns; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; effectively communicate orally and in writing with the ability to gather, analyze, and report information; set up various items of equipment and furniture for various events and classes; and clean and care of buildings and equipment

Must be willing and able to work mornings, evenings, and all day on the weekends. The general schedule will be Friday-Monday. Friday and Monday 6:30 am-10:30 am and Saturday and Sunday 6:30 am – 2:00 pm. The schedule is subject to change based on facility needs.

Possession of First Aide/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain such within six months after employment.

  • Must be able to perform heavy physical labor such as lift 50 pounds unassisted, carry, push and pull heavy objects.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving records.

Sick Leave: All part-time and seasonal employees will be issued twenty-four (24) hours of sick leave upon their date of hire and reinstated every one year anniversary to be available for the following twelve months not to exceed a 24 hour cap. Sick leave may not be used until after 90 days of the original hire date.
