Park Outreach and Development Coordinator

Starting Hourly Rate: $19.63

Work Schedule: This is a year-round, part time position with a flexible schedule. Hours available will be between 10-19 hours a week.

Responsible for the Day to Day coordination and operations of the Gifts and Memorials Donation Program within City parks and natural areas. Work under supervision of the City’s Park Planners and coordinate with Natural Area Preservation staff and/or the GIVE365 Outreach Coordinator with special projects.

Coordinate donor inquiries and manage all aspects of a donor’s gifting experience not limited to: facilitating onsite meetings, developing project ideas, seeking approval, and managing all recordkeeping and paperwork details. Position requires driving to nearby parks and meeting potential donors and park staff in the field. Not all parks are near public transportation.

Projects may include research, data collection and mapping, organizing and digitizing records, and preparing reports and making recommendations for improvements. Develop, maintain, and update communication literature including brochures, maps and other publications for the purpose of communicating and coordinating gifting opportunities.

Additionally, this position may provide general support to the department as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • If hired, candidate is required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no later than their start date or have a City of Ann Arbor approved medical / religious exemption
  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Science, Communications, or related fields
  • At least two (2) years of customer service experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public, volunteers, internal partners, and contractors
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, mapping, and record keeping skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be accountable for results, take initiative, as well as to be adaptable, resilient, highly organized, and detailed oriented
  • Ability to work independently on projects and coordinate information from multiple sources and disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of related experience in relationship building, fundraising, marketing and collaborating

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, standing, walking, talking, hearing,
seeing and repetitive motions.

Occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling required depending on project and location of donated item in the parks system.

The position requires the ability to traverse both paved and unpaved trails, as well as occasional walking off-trail on uneven terrain throughout the park system to meet people at various locations. Responsibilities may include going off trail and reaching out and grabbing branches for stability purposes. Each project can vary in terms of the location of the donation – i.e. park bench across the river, traveling to a turtle habitat or another pond in the parks system. Position may occasionally require crouching to see the soil conditions and feeling of textures including soil.

In addition, the work will require seasonal exposure to extreme (both hot and cold) weather conditions, including snow and ice and working in adverse weather conditions. Work often includes the ability to perform routine moderate lifting and carrying of up to 40lbs including measuring tapes, stakes and mallets. This position will require the ability to drive stakes into the ground to mark locations of benches, trees, and other gifts and memorials to be installed. Occasional handling of plant material such as young trees to be planted may also be required.
