Job Summary/Basic Function:
Patrol assigned area, such as parking lots or University streets to issue tickets to overtime parking violators and illegally parked vehicles. Provides parking services, public relations services, enforcement of parking regulations, and traffic control throughout campus. Monitors security of campus parking facilities. Assists with special events parking arrangements. This position assists with bicycle enforcement and annual clean-up of abandoned bicycles. It may assist parking maintenance with projects as time allows.

Level Scope:
Applies basic skills while developing some specialized skills in procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to area of specialization; performs routine and/or repetitive tasks; limited decision making required; generally works under close supervision; has no or limited experience; work is performed from within specific limits of established procedures and/or defined instructions.
Essential Functions:
• Provides public service by explaining parking policies and answering questions from students, staff and public; provides general campus and directional information, and alternate parking options; handles irate/angry customers by answering questions about parking citations and routing them appropriately for appeals.
• Patrol an assigned area by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to ensure public compliance with existing parking ordinances; enters and receives information pertaining to parking permits, ownership, and registration of vehicles using hand-held computers; issues citations and warnings to institutional policy violators. Operates a computerized ticketing system; controls access to parking lots; monitors parking lots to ensure parking regulations are met.
• Operates two-way portable radio or cell phones and maintains close communications with dispatching personnel (including supervisors).
• Prepare and maintains daily records including logs of parking enforcement activities and pictures of violations.
• Assists maintenance staff in parking lot and equipment maintenance as needed; reports identified maintenance needs.
• Mark tires of parked vehicles with chalk and record time of marking, and return at regular intervals to ensure that parking time limits are not exceeded.
• Assists in Abandoned Bike Clean up and Impoundment.
• Provide assistance to motorists needing help with problems, such as keys locked in cars or dead batteries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Must be able to work Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30 am to 8 pm.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote safety and security operations.
• Attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills.
• Exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
• Accurately read and record vehicle license plate numbers and vehicle identification numbers of parking violators.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:

  • Providing public service in a work setting;
  • Dealing with difficult customers;
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations.

Willingness to:

  • Stand and walk continuously throughout an eight-hour shift;
  • Bend, stoop, lift, and carry items weighting up to 20 pounds;
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Visually observe activities in an assigned area;
  • Use a two-way radio to communicate information.

A valid Driver’s License is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year if related experience.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary of $16/per hour. The selected candidate will be eligible for a $500 recruitment bonus after the successful completion of 6 months of service.
