Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position serves to provide customer service and information to campus visitors and permit holders. The position’s purpose is to calculate and receive parking fees and provide change and receipt, provide safety functions, monitor conditions, control access and egress from parking lots, ensure safe conditions, patrol parking lots and garages and enforce parking regulations, issue parking citations, provide routine maintenance to parking assets such as parking lots; meters and signs.

Level Scope:
Applies basic skills while developing some specialized skills in procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to area of specialization; performs routine and/or repetitive tasks; limited decision making required; generally works under close supervision; has no or limited experience; work is performed from within specific limits of established procedures and/or defined instructions.
Essential Functions:
• Provide public service by explaining parking policies and answering questions from campus visitors; general public; student faculty and staff.
• Provide general campus and directional information and alternate parking options; handle irate/angry customers and initiates resolutions for complaints.
• Provide safety function for campus by visually observing surroundings and situation, monitoring conditions and report (possibly) hazardous conditions, suspicious persons or incidents, traffic accidents, and other activities to proper officials or the immediate supervisor.
• Control access to parking lots
• Monitor parking lots to ensure parking regulations are met
• Operate two -way radio to communicate with department staff;
• Check parking tow list and lost/stolen permit list to determine violations and assist in vehicle towing or impoundment
• Maintain daily records and prepare work activity reports
• Directs traffic as necessary; may assist in office support functions such as preparing correspondence and billing statements, filing or researching outstanding tickets.
• Issue parking citations in the course of daily activities
• Perform parking lot maintenance.
• Maintain meters, signs, and poles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety and parking operations.
• Ability to communicate and clearly explain policies, procedures, and regulations with a varied customer base.
• Dispute resolution skills.
• Experience working with cash handling.
Minimum Qualifications:
Willingness to: stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift; bend, stoop, lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds; work outdoors in all weather conditions; visually observe activities in an assigned area; use a two-way radio to communicate information.
Experience: providing public service in a work setting; dealing with difficult customers. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years experience working in customer service.
