Description
Supervisory and administrative work managing the operations of a large section of the City’s parks and recreation system, or assisting in the management of recreation and parks personnel with development of recreation programming. Work involves supervising operational areas including maintenance, recreational programming and services, concessions, budget operations and revenue collections of assigned areas. Work includes developing and conducting diversified recreational programs and services.

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Plans, directs and implements a broad and varied program of parks and recreation activities and services to meet the needs of children ages 3- 18, and for adult and senior programming.
- Creates flyers, press releases, newsletters, banners, etc., and promotes programs.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the complete operation of assigned parks or assigned areas for review by a superior.
- Supervises the operation of maintenance and recreational services.
- Researches and recommends changes in programs and operations.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of operational reports and revenue records.
- Supervises the collection of revenues from recreational programs, activities, special events and admissions; reports the progress and potential of revenue production through investigations or special studies; recommends changes in the quality of recreational programs and operations.
- Plans, organizes, conducts and supervises significant recreational programs and special events, including education for leisure activities, athletics, tournaments, festivals, concerts, fairs and expositions.
- Explains and interprets rules and regulations, fees and charges, and recreational operations to park patrons; enforces or refers enforcement to proper authorities.
- Conducts periodic inspections of all park areas and facilities; observes efficiencies in operation, safety and condition; issues verbal and written directives to correct deficiencies.
- Prepares and maintains various operational reports on attendance, inventory, revenues and related information.
- Approves or reviews requisitions for materials and supplies for park operations and maintenance; supervises and maintains revenue records; manages park expenditures.
- Develops and implements general and therapeutic recreational activities for individuals with social, mental or physical disabilities.
- Meets with organized groups, individuals, or other interested parties to provide information, assesses community-wide program needs and interests, formulates new programs, and furthers public relations for the City.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related field and at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in managing a large section of a parks and recreation agency or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record. (Must remain valid throughout employment)
First Aid/CPR or must obtain within first 90 days of employment.
Current Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) (preferred qualification)
Current Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) or must obtain within probationary period.

- Ability to accept, receive, and collect payments, prepare and process purchase orders, and maintain inventory.
- Ability to manage grant funds, make budget recommendations, and manage the budget.
- Ability to use small office equipment and computers.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands involve depth perception, driving, far acuity, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, near acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment:
The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: no effective protection from the weather. The employee works in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Job likely consists of typical office or administrative work. The employee works in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment.
Hours of Work: Monday Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (nights, weekends and holiday hours as needed)
