Job Summary

Salem is fortunate to have historical sites and park features not found anywhere this side of the Mississippi.

What you will do:

  • Plan, organize, evaluate and coordinate Parks program operations
  • Provide direct supervision over project lead staff, subordinate park staff and supplemental labor forces.
  • Provide technical and administrative support with budget programs
  • Perform and develop policies/procedures for the parks and recreation programs
  • Provide support and customer service for reservations and special events
  • Work on new and deferred maintenance projects
  • Work independently and make decisions concerning parks operations and programs with minimal direction

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must have an Oregon driver’s license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem’s driving standards.
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field to program assignment (i.e., biology, business management, engineering, environmental sciences, etc.), and four years of supervisory experience in a related field, or any combination of education, experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

    • CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector)
    • ODA (Oregon Department of Agriculture)
    • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)

What you will bring along:

  • Knowledge and experience in maintenance of parks infrastructure, owned right-of-way and median areas, sports and maintenance fields, urban forestry and natural resources, irrigation, and power equipment usage.
