Position Summary
Coordinate habitat restoration activities, manage endangered species and their habitat, grant and report writing. Coordinate and implement natural area management activities with parks maintenance staff. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

At Parks and Recreation, our mission is to preserve and create a community heritage by providing places and programs designed to enhance the quality of life. The Parks Operations Division of Corvallis’ Parks and Recreation Department cares for over 2000 acres of parks, play grounds, playing fields, trails, open spaces and beautification areas.
Essential Functions
Takes a lead role in the implementation of policies, programs, and procedures as defined in the Corvallis Parks and Natural Areas Sustainable Operations Plan and other programs within the Parks Division.
Implements effective public information and education programs for community input and involvement.
Gathers technical information, coordinates, and implements activities, such as habitat enhancement, invasive species control, and threatened and endangered species management.
Responds to citizen inquiries regarding the Parks and Recreation Natural Areas and restoration activities.
Writes grant proposals and bid/proposal documents. Administers grant-funded projects and service contracts.
Acts as the City’s liaison to and provides coordination with appropriate City staff, consultants and contractors, state and federal agencies, private landowners, and other key stakeholders regarding Natural Area management and related activities.
Conducts project management work related natural area restoration activities and other areas as assigned.
Maintains knowledge base of natural resource management, and invasive species control to effectively perform the essential functions.
Provides outreach support for the Urban Forestry Section including volunteer support and coordination.

Operates and drives vehicles and/or equipment safely and legally.

Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Biology, Fish and Wildlife, Ecology, Environmental Policy, Forestry, or other related field and/or a combination of education, experience, and training providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
Two years’ experience working in the area of natural resource management is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of sustainable ecological practices, and pertinent environmental regulations, and the ability to apply this knowledge with limited supervision is required.
Two years’ experience in communicating and conducting presentations with the public in a customer service, public education, and/or involvement capacity.
Experience in grant application and administration, and report writing.
Ability to build and administer natural area management and restoration programs including the within the approved budget.
Ability to use a computer to perform the essential functions of the position.
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to maintain composure and deal tactfully with the public.
Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to consistently meet required deadlines.
Ability to exercise independent judgment on routine matters, identifying problems and making suggestions for improvements.
Ability to get along well with coworkers and the public, and maintain effective work relationships.
Special Requirements
Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Pesticide Applicator Certification and License with the required categories is preferred.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
