Description / Position Overview

Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Internship

In this internship position, you will support the Youth and Adult Sports office with a variety of administrative and planning duties.
This is a seasonal (atwill) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker’s Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees’ Retirement Association).

Anticipated dates of employment will be from August through December. Normal work hours will be between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays. Total hours worked not to exceed 1,500 annually. Average weekly hours are dependent upon need and availability.

Essential Functions– the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform

  • Assist in volunteer coaching recruitment via phone and email
  • Provide support for programs by observing, assisting, leading, and planning
  • Provide game site support for programs by setting up fields, tracking scores, and securing locations.
  • Assist in completing league scheduling
  • Assist with documenting and updating equipment inventories
  • Assist with equipment distribution to teams and coaches
  • Develop the participant’s performance skills

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of basic fundamentals and techniques of various sports, fitness activities, and/or tournaments
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to instruct or lead individuals/groups
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to assist in the operation and control of organized recreation activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employee’s participants and the public
  • Ability to take the initiative in asking questions, performing tasks, and in leading and supervising participants, as appropriate
  • Ability to become familiar with and implement sports division policies and procedures
  • Ability to become familiar with and implement Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills

Successful candidates will have

  • Be enrolled as a full-time Junior/Senior undergraduate or graduate student

Additional Information
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.

The City of Colorado Springs does not provide monetary support for relocation or housing assistance to interns.
