Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 7:30am – 5:30pm
3-day weekends Friday – Sunday

Under general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Parks and Recreation Programmer, Senior Services plans, coordinates, and manages the senior programs and special events at the Rowlett Community Centre. This is accomplished by determining community interests, researching new programs, creating classes and schedules, arranging instruction and marketing programs and services.
Essential Job Functions
Researches, develops and implements parks, recreation, and leisure events and activities for all ages. Coordinates and supervises staff and volunteers for recreation and athletics as needed. Responsible for budget preparation and monitoring. Promotes community awareness of division programs through city wide marketing program.

Assists in planning and coordinating division and citywide parks and recreational special events; manages contract instructors and organizations; works with public information department to promote the department and City.

Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews work performance of contract and/or assigned recreation staff; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems; assigns work activities, projects and programs, monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; works with staff to correct deficiencies.

May assist other community agencies in coordinating events or programs. Responsible for preparing class instructor schedules at the Rowlett Community Centre; participates with Recreation Division Manager and Special Event Coordinator with the design, layout and content of all publicity materials including flyers, posters and culture and recreation brochure; coordinates volunteer program for the Recreation Division programs; works with Rowlett Community Centre Supervisor in the areas maintenance, ordering program equipment and delegating work assignments to the recreation leaders; writes cable announcements; may coordinate Centre staff on various activities.

Develops working relationships with outside agencies to support and promote recreation events and activities and increase usage of facility amenities, such as meeting rooms, banquet and party rooms, and gymnasiums.

Participates in facility management/operations activities of the Rowlett Community Centre when short staffed; may be responsible for working one evening Manager on Duty shift at the Rowlett Community Centre. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in recreation administration, leisure studies or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years recreation related experience. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.

Knowledge of the theories and philosophies or recreation and leisure science; goals and objectives of recreation programming; rules and skills of recreation activities. Ability to plan, organize, publicize, conduct and evaluate recreation activities, communicate effectively in writing and orally with the citizens and employees. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Skill in coordinating recreation center activities and maintenance of same. Follow procedure to open or close facility, balance and reconcile cash drawer, secure funds in safe.
Other Requirements
Valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her supervisor within two working days of receipt.

Must be able to work evenings and week-ends and holidays depending on programs on schedule. Certification in First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator or completion of certification within six months of employment.
