The City and County of Broomfield is hiring one full-time Senior Parks Technician, assigned to the Horticulture team. This particular position will be focused on sports and parks turf management.
Hiring Range: $26.01 – $30.60/hour

Primary responsibilities include performing a variety of routine to moderate difficulty tasks related to the City and County’s Parks and Cemeteries Operations and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public. This position will collaborate with other divisions within the Park, Recreation and Senior Services Departments.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
- Supervises and participates in the preparation, development, record keeping and maintenance of park areas including all aspects of sports and park turf areas.
- Broadleaf weed control, equipment calibration, turf fertilization and aeration, topdressing, soil testing and turf repair, including sod installation and overseeding.Trash collection, snow removal, disease and pest control, and horticulture operations.
- Trains seasonal employees in proper maintenance practice of all types of plant material and proper pesticide application methods.
- Operates construction and maintenance equipment and provides back-up coverage during seasonal operation of snowplows during inclement weather.
- Duties require a full range of physical motion and activities including manual digging, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and turning the upper body, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching for objects, walking and standing. The incumbent must also be alert to peripheral activities when operating equipment and therefore must have a full range of movement in the neck and shoulders.
Minimum Qualifications
Training – High school graduation or GED equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of responsible parks maintenance operations in horticulture.
- A State of Colorado Pesticide Applicator’s License is preferred, especially in category 206.
- Experience in supervising seasonal staff is preferred.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: – Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: written evaluation (if requested), oral board, reference checks, driving record check through DMV, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry check, and pre-placement physical.
