Job Description
The Johnson County Mental Health Justice Team is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of a Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) to work 2 shifts/week at the New Century Adult Residential Center.
The Johnson County Department of Corrections Adult Residential Center is a 398 bed, community based, facility that provides a highly structured environment for adult offenders ordered by the District Court to our program. The main objective of the Residential Center program is to reintegrate clients into the community as successful, productive citizens.
The Mental Health Nurse provides direct psychiatric services to inmates in a correctional setting. This position will remain open until filled. Other responsibilities include:
- Provides comprehensive nursing services; assesses the holistic needs of individuals by incorporating family and environmental factors; collects and documents inmate health history; measures and records vital signs; completes health assessments and performs limited exams; obtains, processes, and handles lab specimens; manages, controls and implements medication administration programs; performs minor procedures and treatments within designated area of specialty.
- Completes and submits documentation regarding inmate care and condition; reviews quality and effectiveness of services provided and documented by other service providers.
- Provides inmates with supportive resources; educates patients in areas impacting health, wellness, and daily living activities; develops and provides specialized health training and education to staff.
- Provides case management, care coordination, referral and follow-up to inmates; evaluates outcomes, effectiveness of plans, and makes changes as necessary.
Job Requirements
Successful completion of education program in Nursing that meets the requirements for the Registered Nurse license; licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
One year of nursing experience is preferred, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
